Rain Water Harvesting

The inhabitants of Basquitay village, located in the Equadorian Andes stragle in their access to safe drinking water. Fluid volunteers spend weeks exploring different options in the area. Because of the lack of aquifers and the high levels of minerals in ground water, we tested different ways of harvesting and using rain water.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Testing low-cost options

Using community workshops different options for collecting, saving and using rain water were identified. On the following weeks everal experiments were done by some head of households.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Community learning

The results of the different experiments were presented to community for decision making. This project was a possible thanks to a cooperation between Fluid, EkoRural Foundation and the Local Council of Basquitay.
